Sounder's Ongoing Creation...

Topic: The band from birth on
I am constantly amazed at the number of details involved in putting together a performance organization as a small business.
Most business people don't consider music as a legitimate business endeavor, and most musicians can't relate to the business end. Having spent most of my career in the production and technical end of the Entertainment industry, I learned the business before I was taken seriously as a performer.
But, with the mantle of "production" hung on your shoulder, it is taboo to try to cross the line and be talent. I managed to do it without rubbing too many influential people the wrong way.
Now, I have to do both, as front man/vocalist, harmonica player, percussionist, band leader, music director, booking agent, manager, sound engineer, production manager, etc. It is like trying to wear 47 hats at once... fashionably!
Obviously, this is a labor of love and I am not complaining. I have chosen this, and spent all these years gathering tools, both physical and mental/experiential.
One of the most common comments, since we are such a relatively new organization is that is coming together so quickly. It is good for people to notice, but there have just been so many hours of work put in by each and every member of this band. Rehearsals, "wood-shedding" at home, years of building their skills and talents and agreeable personalities.
And there are so many factors involved in the business and marketing end. I am frequently up into the wee hours of the morning doing set lists, and the promo package, and working on photos and necessary graphics, and many more necessary chores.
Still, a labor of love.
The move upward continues...
