Growth
Topic: The band from birth on

I have been so wrapped up in all of the administrative duties of the band, haven't had time to write.

I am all involved in my least favorite job in the band... bookings. I am anxious for the day I can hire someone to do it for me.

But I am seeing results from my habit of "ruthless self-promotion." Searches are actually returning front page hits for the band. I like it.

Trying to stay ahead of the crowd.

Sounder's Ongoing Creation...
Mood:  happy
Topic: The band from birth on

I am constantly amazed at the number of details involved in putting together a performance organization as a small business.

Most business people don't consider music as a legitimate business endeavor, and most musicians can't relate to the business end. Having spent most of my career in the production and technical end of the Entertainment industry, I learned the business before I was taken seriously as a performer.

But, with the mantle of "production" hung on your shoulder, it is taboo to try to cross the line and be talent. I managed to do it without rubbing too many influential people the wrong way.

Now, I have to do both, as front man/vocalist, harmonica player, percussionist, band leader, music director, booking agent, manager, sound engineer, production manager, etc. It is like trying to wear 47 hats at once... fashionably!

Obviously, this is a labor of love and I am not complaining. I have chosen this, and spent all these years gathering tools, both physical and mental/experiential.

One of the most common comments, since we are such a relatively new organization is that is coming together so quickly. It is good for people to notice, but there have just been so many hours of work put in by each and every member of this band. Rehearsals, "wood-shedding" at home, years of building their skills and talents and agreeable personalities.

And there are so many factors involved in the business and marketing end. I am frequently up into the wee hours of the morning doing set lists, and the promo package, and working on photos and necessary graphics, and many more necessary chores.

Still, a labor of love.

The move upward continues...

The New Look...
Mood:  cool

I hope y'all enjoy the new look of the website. I just wasn't satisfied with the templates on my host's site, so I found out how to use Dreamweaver with the host's server and am now able to work on this site at home.

It will be continually updated as fast as I can secure more gigs and we do more.

Keep watching and we'll see you at the shows.

Observations....
Mood:  vegas lucky

I am constantly amazed by my band members. We did two gigs in the lst two weeks, and they all complained! What did they complain about? Not the house; not the sound; not the other performers. Every one of them complained about their own performance. This is why I love working with professionally oriented people.

I have put off putting a band together for a long time because I didn't want to have to play "Road Mom" to a bunch of muso-kids with bad habits. Been there, done that.

If it sounds like I am proud of these people,... Well, you can count on it.

Welcome!!!!
Mood:  energetic

Greetings Friends,

Welcome to the Sounder Blog. I am not sure yet what interesting tidbits will occupy this blog, but since Sounder is a new project, perhaps the next few posts will document how and why this got started, and the steps taken to get the whole thing off the ground. Just a thought.

We'll see what develops.
